Favorite Things Friday!

Happy Friday, People!

I hope you had a fabulous week.

But enough chit chat.

On to my favorite thing this week:

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S8_oRGrZhlI/AAAAAAAAKP4/MhgrBTrto3w/s1600/header+pic.jpg

have you seen these? Ugh. They're so cute!

I did a little research
and found just how easy they are to make.
I want some of these:

http://i.ehow.com/images/a04/qm/bh/use-metal-stamps-200X200.jpg

It's about $20 to get some stamps. Not a bad price...
but how many of these can a girl make before
she gets sick of them?!

What do you think?
Take the plunge and buy some (and risk the fact
that they might sit on my craft
shelf because I have far too many herb/ garden markers
and though I love to make them...there's just no need to
make any more)
or
be reasonable and level-headed and realize
that just because it would
be a fun thing to do...
some things are just better left
bought
rather than
having to be made?

Help me, dear friends!

Get thee behind me, Satan!

So I was reading today in Matt-- I believe the 15th chapter-- when Jesus is explaining to the disciples what is inevitably going to occur-- his torturous death on the cross. Peter- out of love and concern for him, no doubt- says, "No, Lord! That can never happen to you!!!". Rather than saying, "Hey, Man...thanks for the concern...I know you don't want to see me suffer...but this has to happen to fulfill God's plan for the world..." he says, "Get thee behind me, Satan! You have the things of man in mind, not the things of God."

How many times in my life have I heard this? Uhhhhhh....mmmmmm.....prolly 7 or 8 dozen times??? But never did it strike me in that way. Peter obviously didn't mean to say, "I don't care if that's God's plan or not...I don't want that to happen to you..." He was merely expressing his concern and love for Jesus.

How many times do I open my mouth to console someone, or comfort someone (in love and concern) but speak out of my own "wisdom"? Why is it that we're more concerned about not hurting someone's feelings than we are with speaking what God would have us say? Our wisdom (although well-intended) is worth about as much as the pile of dirt in my back yard that my kids like to throw at each other. It's ugly and makes a big mess.

Made me think today. I'm going to think before I open that trap of mine...

Anyone else??? Anyone? Anyone?

Favorite Things Friday-- {and the WINNER is...}

Well, actually it's Thursday night...but close enough, right?

Are you curious about who won?
Are ya, are ya, are ya?

Ms. Kyna-- I chose YOU! =)

Kyna posted that I should post about my favorite things about the *two* people who follow the blog! ha! Well...shows what YOU know, Ms. Smarty pants! There are actually FOUR people! hehe!

This is going to be hard...and I just might get a little emotional! You guys are all special to me in different ways! So...here we go:

Jeni- where to begin. My favorite thing about you is your silliness. I can always be goofy me with you. Whether it was sitting on the floor at Walmart watching movies because we were so broke, or going to get Cajun Cones because we were addicted-- or flying around town in Isacar (can you believe I remember your first car's name? MAN, that was an ugly car! haha!), or playing Spoons at Wimberly-- we always had a blast together! Those were the good days! =)

Kyna- oh, my goodness, what a joy you are. My favorite thing about you is your temperament. I remember that nothing ever really ruffled your feathers. You didn't get stressed-out easily and you kind of just rolled with the punches. You were even-keeled (something I so admire, since my moods/emotions are all over the place. Sheesh!) I wish I could see you as a mom, because I know you're so good with your girls-- so silly and fun and gentle. I'm sure you have your moments...but my moments come about every 45 seconds! ha! Teach me how! =)

Stacey- My favorite thing about you is your wit. The way you word things, the tone, the humor, the inspiration...you truly have a gift! (not even buttering your bread! ha!). I love that you're from TX and that I have a kindred spirit who understands all of the challenges of marrying a northern boy and living in a "foreign" (but beautiful) land! I love that you get my humor too! I wish we had been planted up north at the same time, but still thankful that we can connect via the computer!

Michelle- Oh, Michelle-- maybe I should answer what ISN'T my favorite thing about you! I admire so many things about you. Don't know that I can choose one. This will be tough. Hmmmm...I think I would have to say your creativity and resourcefulness. We certainly connect on that level! But when I think of you, what comes to mind is your smile and warmth. I didn't expect to make friends in St. Louis because I knew it was going to be a temporary situation. I'm so glad Rinnea introduced us...and I'm so thankful we're still able to connect!

So, there ya have it, Girls! Love you all so much and I'm so thankful for each of you and what you have brought to my life!

Kyna, email me (or FB) your address and I'm sending you a gift card! Thanks for the great suggestions.

You guys are my favorite thing
Happy Friday!

ERG!

Oh, crud. Almost a week has gone by since my last post. Think FAST: gotta come up with a "Favorite Thing" before Friday comes around!

What about........no.......I think I already did that.
Maybe--- nah. Too lame.

Anyone?

Anyone?

Suggestions?

I got nuthin' so far!

Oooooh! Oooooh! I know!
Let's make this interesting!
The winner will get a surprise.
(I predict right here and now that
I will in fact be treating none other than
myself to a latte or a Target run on account
of the fact that the two of you who
keep up with this blog are too
busy this week to figure out a favorite thing!)
hehe!

Don't know what the surprise will be yet...so don't even ask.
I'm a little indecisive at the moment...
thus the reason I need your help!
hehe!

Favorite Things Friday

Can I just tell you how excited I am about this weeks' Favorite Thing?! I have been waiting for this particular thing for so long! All of those moms out there with toddlers will understand!

Ready?

Drumroll, please...

WE HAVE A FENCE!!!

No more 3 year olds running into the neighbor's yards.

No more 1.5 year olds running away from me into the front yard.

No more neighborhood dogs wandering into our yard.

No more stress about being outside.

My favorite thing!

Noooooo...I couldn't. Could I????

So, you know about my blue counter tops, right? As tacky as they are, somehow I was able to look beyond them when we bought the house. What can I say? I'm a visionary! Rather than seeing them for what they are, I saw what they could be.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_9eXEKNCqerQ/S6z57m4Y9uI/AAAAAAAABMU/xm-qbklPJ6U/s1600/IMG_3836.JPG

Although I would love having granite, I'm not ready to throw down
thousands of dollars.
That's made me try to think of simple solutions that
I might be able to come up with until then.

So...I came across this:

Would you ever paint your counter tops?

Transparency

transparency window 221x300 A Place for Transparency?

 We've started going to Alpha at our church. I've wanted to go for a while, but the hubs wasn't thrilled with the idea. Not because he had anything *against* it, but he said, "ummmm...we went to a Bible college. Isn't Alpha basically learning more about our faith?". Yes. I did go to a Christian college. I had many required faith-based classes. But can I tell you a secret? Lean in really close. A little closer. I slept through pretty much ALL of them. It's not all for loss though...I mean...I did meet one of my dearest friends from college in one of the Bible classes. I still remember it like it was yesterday. I couldn't find a place to sit, so I was just standing in the aisle, when this adorable girl says, "I like your shoes!". I knew then and there that we would be great friends! "{Miss you, Andrea!}

But that's neither here nor there...

The point is that I learned absolutely nothing from those classes (and I have the GPA to prove it.). I'm not proud of the fact that I slept through them...and most of my other classes. Turns out staying up late night after night playing Tetris wasn't the wisest thing to do with my time.

So, back to Alpha. Sitting around talking to the folks at our table we were discussing the aspects of God that really touch us to the core. For someone it was His faithfulness. For another it was His security and provision. Then it was my turn. I said, "It's His goodness. Rarely a service goes by that I'm not bawling at the thought of everything he's done for me..." I couldn't even get through the words without tearing up.

I'm an open book. What you see is what you get. I don't *mind* being transparent, but some kind of filter would be nice. The waterworks come at very inopportune times. Many times in college, I would be sitting across the table from Chris at a restaurant and would be crying about something God had done, shown me, or just out of a thankful heart. He's always hated being in that situation, because he thinks people assume the worst and are thinking to themselves, "WHAT did he DO to her?!". Kind of cracks me up thinking about it!

So, yeah. Last night was one of those nights. Thankfully I was able to shut my mouth before I really started crying.

Ugh.

Anyone out there have this issue? Please. Tell me I'm not the only one!

One of my favorite things about Easter has always been watching the little girls come into church with the perfect dress, perfect, new, bright-white shoes, and accessories. Now, growing back in the day, that meant a white Easter hat, gloves, and maybe a white purse. UGH....I can still remember that feeling...wanting to wear that hat and those gloves for sooooo long, but my Momma saying, "Not until Easter..." It was so hard to be patient. I loved Easter sooooo much.
http://www.tuxnlace.com/images/girls_easter_dress_513.jpg

I've said it once...I'll say it again...it's a good thing I don't have girls. First of all, we would be broke. Not even joking. B.R.O.K.E. Secondly, it's innevitable that I would have a tomboy who would resent me her entire life. Why? Because I would make her dress like this:

You think I'm kidding. Oh, no...I'm not. In fact, I would probably do something more frilly than this...maybe, say:

In stead, it seems like girls don't really dress up for Easter anymore. Granted, we go to church on Saturday nights. Maybe the moms just didn't want to deal with it then. In fact, I'm sure that's probably the case.

So...I missed one of my favorite times this year. The next time little girls will be wearing super-frilly dresses will be in December. *sigh*

I love days like today.

But that's not today's favorite.

Nice, looooong naps
